Community Involvement
TOTE is dedicated to serving Alaska's transportation needs and supporting those communities we serve. This dedication has fostered a special relationship with the local Alaska and Seattle-Tacoma communities. TOTE participates in various charitable and non-profit organizations in the Anchorage, Fairbanks, Kenai, Seattle, and Tacoma communities.
TOTE donates thousands of dollars to charities as well as in-kind contributions in both Alaska and the Lower 48. TOTE employees actively participate in charitable events including the MS Walk, the Diabetes Walk, and the 3-day Walk for Life benefiting breast cancer research. Other notable charitable events for which TOTE and its' employees are active participants include the Seward Polar Bear Plunge for the American Cancer Society and the United Way Day of Caring and food drive. In addition, many of TOTE’s employees serve on various non-profit boards.
Totem Ocean Trailer Express Corporate Donation Policy:
TOTE provides charitable contributions and in-kind gifts to those organizations which provide services in the following areas: health, education, community service, youth activities, cultural, special community projects, and environmental. The requesting organization must also be eligible for tax-deductible contributions as defined in Section 170 (c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
TOTE does not provide contributions for political purposes, veterans, labor, recreation, fraternal, trade associations, business promotions or religious organizations.
However, a contribution may be made to a non-conforming organization, if the contribution is to be used for a conforming purpose. For example, a contribution may not be made for the general support of organizations such as the American Legion, a local athletic club, Shriners, Chamber of Commerce or a church. But a contribution may be made to any of these organizations if it is to be earmarked for such purposes as Girl Scouts, Heart Association, city cleanup or non-sectarian education (such as an unrestricted gift to a university). Direct contributions are preferable to indirect gifts that utilize professional fundraisers.
Once a request is deemed tax deductible and qualifies under one of TOTE’s giving parameters, other criteria may be considered:
- How widespread the benefit
- How urgent the need
- Recognition of corporate citizenship
